4 min read

Laptop batteries do not last forever. This guide covers the signs that your battery needs replacing and when to seek professional help.

Laptop batteries degrade over time — it is normal. But certain signs tell you a replacement is overdue.

Signs your battery needs replacing

  • Battery drains very quickly even when lightly used.
  • The laptop shuts down at a high battery percentage.
  • The battery will not charge past a certain point.
  • The trackpad or chassis is lifting — a sign of a swollen battery.
  • The laptop only works on wall power.

A swollen battery is urgent

A swollen battery is a safety concern. It can press against the trackpad, keyboard or chassis and should be replaced promptly. Do not continue using a visibly swollen laptop — bring it in as soon as possible.

Battery or charging port?

Sometimes a 'dead battery' is actually a charging port or charging circuit fault. We test the charger, port and battery together so you only pay for the repair you actually need.
