Laptop Liquid Damage: What Should You Do?
3 min read
Spilled liquid on your laptop? Acting quickly can make the difference between a recoverable repair and a write-off. Here is what to do.
Liquid damage is one of the most urgent laptop faults. How you react in the first few minutes can make the difference between a successful repair and a write-off.
What to do immediately
- Switch the laptop off — do not shut it down normally, just power it off.
- Unplug the charger and any connected devices.
- Do not try to turn it back on. Every attempt can cause further corrosion and short circuits.
- Do not use a hair dryer or heat — this can push liquid deeper and damage components.
- Open the laptop and let it air dry if you can do so safely.
- Bring it in as soon as possible.
Why speed matters
Liquid causes corrosion that spreads over hours and days. The sooner the board is cleaned and the damage assessed, the better the chance of recovery — and of saving your data.
How we treat liquid damage
We disassemble the laptop, clean the board professionally, assess the corrosion, repair any shorted components, and test thoroughly before returning it.
If your laptop has had liquid spilled on it, book an emergency liquid damage repair at our Sandton workshop.
